My husband Darrin Glenn and I decided we wanted a dog, he had just retired October 2022. I went on an online search to adopt a dog, that fell through so I found a website out in Lancaster County called Keystone Puppies, I Googled the website and read reviews. People said they were puppy mills but when I saw this German Shepherd photo when he was born (11/29/2022) than at 3 months his long ears, nose and piercing eyes touched me. Also the DOB was my Grandmother’s, who passed away in 11/1991 and my biological oldest sister. We called and they said he was sold but returned and was available for pickup. The ride was 1.5 hours in the middle of acres of acres of farm land. His name on the website was ‘Marlo’ we thought he was small however, he was a big baby, with long uncoordinated feet. His Dog Mom was still on the farm, and she had patches of hair missing, she watched us take her baby. At first he didn’t want us to touch him and was shaking and very quiet. My husband sat in the back seat with him and assured him we were going to be the best parents. I took him straight to my parents house, My mother looked at him and named him “Dash” we picked up my husband’s Sister and she said he looked like a cop’s dog and gave us the name “Copper”. Dash Copper, was the 2nd family dog, we had a Poodle in our family already name “Jersey” who also came from Lancaster county 3 years prior. However, Dash was very stand-off ish with everyone but my husband. It took my husband leaving him with me for an entire weekend for us to develop a close relationship (mother/son bond). Dash was extremely intelligent, loyal, and barked at anyway who came near us or the house just temporarily until he smelled you and he determined you were not a threat. If you were a threat or had bad intentions he continued to bark, he loved water but was scared of our inground pool, but the shower he used as a sprinkler. He loved certain treats, walks around the neighborhood, toys, puzzles, very clingy, belly rubs, hair brushing, dog lavender scent wipes, his Dad and brothers cologne. He was always big for his age so he weighed 125lbs at 3 years old. My entire family is traumatized by his transition. He was the life of family events. He loved car rides to hang his head out the window and also he would never bark inside the car, he was a bourgie dog inside the car. Rest Well Baby Boy Gone but never forgotten.
