Ninja came to our family by happy circumstance. Our kids wanted a cat, so my wife and I went to the Pet Smart in Delaware and selected two cats- a girl and a boy, each from different litters. We decided the children could pick the one they wanted. We went home to bring the kids back the next day. Unbeknownst to us, the store clerks put both cats together in their own cage. When we came back they were cuddled up against each other. There was no way we could separate them! So we adopted Ninja (nee Brian) and Spaz (nee Aphrodite).
Ninja was an amazing cat. He had the sweetest disposition. Children could pick him up, pull his tail, move him about, and he never got upset. He never once swiped at anyone. Even through three teens and then three grandchildren. He would talk to you and dance by getting on his hand legs and waving his arms when he wanted something. Most remarkable, he would play fetch. His favorites were plastic water bottle caps. We would throw them around the house and he would fetch and drop it at our feet. Later he did the same with all manner of toys.
Ninja was so sweet. When a mouse would get in the house he would carry it around carefully, never wanting to hurt it. He was great to snuggle with and had the softest fur imaginable. He was particularly attached to our younger daughter. When she would go out, Ninja would sit by the door calling her until she returned. Later, when the kids were gone, Ninja was my buddy. I’d sit and pet him for hours. A part of us left when Ninja crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but a part of him will always be with us.
