We wanted a little grey cat and happened to go to Brandywine SPCA.
Soon to be Jareth was in a little cage all by himself and everyone that came over to him awwwwed and him until he turned towards them. When they saw his eye they passed him up.
Mike went over and saw him before I did and told me to come over and look at him. Jareth was a little sick kitten that was being fostered.
We took him in as our first foster to adopt kitten. Poor Jareth had to be quarantined for three months at our house because Brandywine said that he had a bad viral infection which turned out to be not the case, but he was still very sick. He had his own humidifier and air purifier to help him breath and was on lots of different medicine. Jareth never meowed but purred alot and was very playful. He loved to sit on our shoulders and was always very loving to his regular siblings and foster friends.
We took him home after Brandywine released him to us, after not being fully treated for underlying issues that were stated they would rectify due to him being a foster. After his neutering, however they ended care abruptly.
We took him to 5 different vets. Many refused to even try to help him. Our last vet took the chance of trying to give Jareth the life he deserved and removed a polyp the size of a jumbo shrimp from his throat which was the reason why he couldn’t purr or eat solid foods. His food would sit and “back up” into his nasal cavities and his sinuses causing him pain and secondary URIs and ear infections.
The surgery was successful but the damage was done after over a year and a half of no interventions and his veins and arteries could not handle the damaged from being stretched from the polyp.
Even through everything Jareth was one of the best friends a person could have. Everyday he greeted us with his usual nasal hello and jumping into his crate so that he could eat with angling of bowls and dishes. He loved drinking out of his water fountain, but at times still required supplemental infusions because he was so weak.
Somehow he claimed the second to the top perch of the cat tree and made it known it was his. Since then, his siblings have left it vacant.
He loved his avocado pillow and his little star and a crocheted squid that was made for him.
We are grateful that we had him in our life for a short time and miss him very much.
